Community Unites in Rally Demanding Justice for Robert Brooks and Comprehensive Prison Reform
Albany, NY—Today, We Are Revolutionary, alongside community leaders and advocates, convened a rally outside the New York State Governor’s Mansion to demand justice for Robert Brooks and call for comprehensive prison reform. The event drew a significant turnout, reflecting widespread concern and outrage over the recent death of Mr. Brooks following an encounter with correctional officers at Marcy Correctional Facility.
Speakers at the rally included representatives from We Are Revolutionary, formerly incarcerated individuals, and family members of those affected by systemic injustices within the prison system. They emphasized the urgent need for accountability and systemic change to prevent further tragedies.
“The death of Robert Brooks is a stark reminder of the deep-seated issues within our correctional facilities,” Lukee Forbes, Executive Director at We Are Revolutionary. “Today’s gathering demonstrates our collective commitment to seeking justice and implementing reforms that uphold the dignity and rights of all individuals.”
The rally follows the release of body-worn camera footage showing the assault on Mr. Brooks, which has prompted public outcry and demands for action. Participants called on Governor Kathy Hochul and state officials to ensure those responsible are held accountable and to undertake comprehensive reforms to address systemic violence within the correctional system.
